University is a great time for a number of things. Socializing, being an adult without adult responsibilities and starting what is probably your dream career.

One thing that I have found uni to be perfect for is changing your style. In high school, people can be pretty judgemental anything that isn’t what the ‘popular’ kids are wearing will be commented on. My high school also had a school uniform so, to begin with, it was weird to me to have to put together outfits for every day of the week.

Uni is a complete free for all when it comes to fashion. You can turn up in leggings and a jumper, you can wear a dress or you could wear the brightest outfit imaginable and no one bats an eyelid. It’s a great time to change your style and branch out into clothes you probably wouldn’t have worn in your hometown.

(I’m not sure about you but my Mum had a habit of going ‘really you’re wearing that out?’ Now when I visit home she’s always saying ‘oh where did you get that top, that’s so nice’)

University is probably one of the only times in your life where if you want to you can completely reinvent yourself.

Over the last year, I have purchased items I would previously have never had the confidence to wear.

One of them being my bright pink faux fur coat. This is something I would never have dreamed of wearing I even purchased it in grey in case I didn’t like this one in person or it was too bright. However, it’s one of my most complimented items of clothing. Everywhere I have ever worn this coat someone has mentioned how much they love it.

I can’t wait for the weather to get a little bit colder so I can wear this again.

Another staple of my wardrobe now is bright patterned or colourful trousers. I started off with black trousers with patterns and now I have bright pink ones, white leaf print, and my favourite is the black floral pair that also has birds on them from H&M.

If you are going to change your style you don’t have to overhaul everything at once. Start small by bringing in accessories or shoes and go from there.

You also don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe, I’m sure everyone has a few items of clothes still with tags on or that top in your wardrobe that you just aren’t sure about. Start with styling them!

University can be daunting but it has given me so much confidence when it comes to styling clothes. Gone are my days over wearing black skinny jeans and a t-shirt every day of the week because it was easy.

Have you ever overhauled your wardrobe? What’s one item of clothing you thought you would never wear but loved? Let me know in the comments!

  1. That pink coat you have is pretty incredible! I don’t think I could pull it off, haha. I am someone that is not very adventurous when it comes to clothes šŸ˜› I have a few pieces of clothing I have bought but not worn, so I’ll definitely try and wear a few of them and see how I feel. It’s good to go try and push yourself sometimes!

  2. I totally agree! My school uniform was actually not that bad but still entering uni and having the freedom to style yourself you want to is so cool!
Iā€™m loving that pink fur coat! šŸ˜ šŸ’•
