<\/p>\nSince moving to Dundee we have spent a lot of time trying new places to eat, there are very little chain restaurants here, most are independent which I absolutely love. As we are both students we have loved discovering places that don’t break the balance for a student budget. We also have the added challenge of making sure they offer gluten-free food for Nick.<\/p>\n
I was lucky enough to be invited along to visit The Italian Grill. This meal was kindly gifted and I want to thank them for such a lovely evening. The food was unreal and we will be visiting again very soon.<\/p>\n
The Italian Grill is located on the City Square right in the heart of Dundee’s city centre. It’s only a few minutes away from the train station and the local buses. City Square is a gorgeous part of Dundee, in summer it does not look like it is in Scotland at all.<\/p>\n

As you walk in there is a bar to the left with the seating to the right. Our drinks were brought to our table but on a busy night, I would be quite happy to sit and wait at the bar area. On the back wall was the kitchen where you could see the flame from the grills. It was really nice to sit and watch our food being cooked. We were seated by the window and had a lovely few of the fountains in the City Square.<\/p>\n
Thankfully I had the day off of uni and work the next day so I went straight for the cocktail menu. My favourite type of drink usually involves gin so I opted for a Gin Fizz. This was Malfy Originale, Lemon, Cane Sugar, Soda. I have never tried Malfy gin but it was absolutely delicious and we ended up having more than one.<\/p>\n

The menu has a good variety of food including Pizza, Risotto, Fresh Egg Pasta and the Josper Grill.\u00a0They cater to different dietary requirements, Nick is Gluten Free and there were few things on the menu that he couldn’t have. They also offer vegan mozzarella.<\/p>\n
There really is something for everyone.<\/p>\n
I really struggled to decide but eventually, I opted to have a meat calzone as I had never tried a calzone before. I was shocked at just how full it was. This was stuffed with Tuscan sausage, meatballs, pepperoni, red chillies, tomato and buffalo mozzarella. I only managed about half of this as it was so much more filling than a normal pizza, none the less it was incredible.<\/p>\n

Nick was looking forward to having one of the grill options. There is a Guest Cut which is the chef’s choice on the day. The night we visited the restaurant this was a T-Bone steak and when Nick heard this his face lit up. He couldn’t have the chips with it (due to being gluten-free)\u00a0<\/em>but to be honest, a salad was a better match as the steak was huge. This was cooked to perfection and I did sneak a few little bites. Once we finished we were offered the dessert menu.\u00a0I didn’t think I could manage a dessert after all of that food, however, I saw Nutella doughnuts on the menu and I couldn’t resist.<\/p>\n This dessert consisted of 5 warm mini doughnuts filled with Nutella, served alongside some raspberries in a bitter chocolate sauce. I absolutely loved the melted Nutella mixed with the bitter chocolate sauce.<\/p>\n Nick opted for the Affogato, simple but still tasty.<\/p>\n We had a lovely evening at The Italian Grill. It’s the kind of restaurant that is perfect for a date night or somewhere that I would take my parents when they come to visit. I actually sent my parents photos of the food and received the reply of ‘so when are we going?’<\/p>\n If you are in Dundee I highly recommend visiting, you won’t be disappointed.<\/p>\n What is your favourite meal from an Italian restaurant?
