In March 2019, I wrote a post called My Travel Plans for 2019. where I outlined everywhere I hoped to visit that year. It was a pretty ambitious list including 3 trips abroad and one trip away in Scotland so let’s find out where I went shall we?
Oban – Taynuilt
The first trip of the year was a hot tub lodge with Nick’s cousins and their partners. This one isn’t the best hot tub lodge we have been to as we were very close to the road and it didn’t really have the away from the world relaxing feel that you would want. Regardless of that, the drive was absolutely beautiful all along Loch Lomond and we had a great weekend which was the main point. My phone stayed inside for most of the time as you don’t have much signal so I have no photos from that weekend.
Aberfeldy
Soon after the lodge, we ended up crashing Nick’s families few days away in Aberfeldy. It was so nice to spend time with them, going for dinner, going swimming and feeding the ducks straight from our bedroom window.
We took a trip into Pitlochry which was lovely, I found a sweet shop that sold my favourite penny sweeties and we found a chippy that did gluten-free everything which Nick loved. Overall a 10/10 trip and one that I would love to do again.
Iceland
Iceland was our big holiday in 2019. It was our first holiday abroad alone and we both completely fell in love with the country. I’ve done an in-depth post about what we got up to over the 7 days which you can read here..
I would encourage everyone to go visit Iceland. It is just incredible. It’s definitely still on my list to go explore more as we didn’t see everything we wanted to in the week that we were there. Next time I’ll definitely be going for 3 weeks and road-tripping around the whole country.
Fuerteventura
My second home. Every year my family goes on holiday to Fuerteventura and we have done since I was 3. We’ve seen loads of changes over the years, made friends for life and made some of the best memories. This year though was more memorable as it was the first year Nick joined us.
Our journey home from here was ridiculously long. Ryanair was due to go on strike whilst we were away so we chose to book flights with Jet2. This meant we had to travel to Lanzarote to fly back on the day we wanted to. Thus ensued, 2 buses, a ferry, another bus, a plane, and a final bus. Overall we left Fuerteventura at 12pm and arrived at our flat at 5.30am.
Despite the journey, we got to see a little bit of Lanzarote and explore new places in Fuerteventura whilst having a laugh about how ridiculous it all was.
Glasgow
My favourite city. I did an overnight in Glasgow this year for a Little Mix concert and it was so good to be back. Glasgow was where I went to college so I used to spend 3-5 days in the city centre. We went to the concert and then headed on a night out. The next day we went for pancakes and had a shopping day. Sometimes a wee overnight is all you need.
Edinburgh
For Nick’s birthday, we spent an overnight in Edinburgh so that we could go and see the Christmas Markets. We went out for dinner, got lost in the Christmas tree maze and went for drinks.
The next day we went on the Big Wheel, went for lunch at Byron Burgers which was insane and then we went and explored Dean’s Village. A very chilled but very fun wee overnight away.
It’s safe to say I actually did a fair bit of traveling this year. The only place I missed out on from my travel plans post was a trip to Paris. That was a complete long shot and I’m okay with the fact it didn’t happen. One thing I did learn is that it’s nice to explore more of your own country.
As for 2020, we are yet to decide on where we are visiting but I am so excited to see where we go.

Love this post, I always make plans on where I’d like to go at the beginning of the year and then I always end up following only 60% of it so it’s really curious to do a wrap up at the end!

It sounds like you had a great year travelling! Glasgow is my favourite city too I went to University there and lived there for a year and I loved it there was so much to do and see. Also, I would love to stay in a lodge and the one in Piperdam in Dundee sounds like so good. I can’t wait to see where you visit in 2020.
I’m from near Glasgow so I got used to the city but it’s really nice to go back for an overnight. Piperdam lodges were really nice it’s always relaxing in a lodge!x
I love this post! It looks like you visited so many incredible places – I visited Inverness, Dubrovnik and Amsterdam. So far this year I have visited Amsterdam, booked Bali for June and plan to visit Budapest!

Sounds like you’ve had an amazing year of travelling – I’m a little jealous of your adventures around Scotland. We went to Pembrokeshire this year, and I’d never been to Wales before, so it was great fun.
I forget how lucky I am to be from Scotland, we definitely take the landscape for granted. Wales is definitely on my list for a wee weekend away x
